VASIL BERELA

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Berela's life has been a tale of resilience, creativity, and self-discovery. Born in Gori, Georgia, he came of age during a time of political upheaval, economic turmoil, and territorial annexation by Russia. Art became a refuge for him, a way to escape the harsh reality of his surroundings and indulge in his imagination. After a brief stint studying architecture at the Academy of Arts in Tbilisi, Berela realized that his true passion lay in painting, and began to explore the medium on his own. But when war broke out in 2008, he made the difficult decision to leave his home country in search of a better life.

In Germany, he continued to hone his skills as a self-taught painter, delving deeper into classical techniques and exploring the power of form and color. Seeking new challenges, he turned to sculpture in 2014, ultimately becoming a teacher and passing on his passion to a new generation of artists. Berela's journey is a testament to the transformative power of art and the human spirit, a reminder that even in the darkest of times, creativity and perseverance can light the way forward.
