Born in Munich 1956. Moved to Hamburg and Berlin in the 1970's. From 1981- 1989 Mangold lived and painted in New York, during which the majority of the oil works were created. With the 1991 independence of Ukraine, Ilona Mangold moved to the capital city Kyiv, where the artist co-founded and worked for the art gallery "Brama" (ukr. "The Gate") which soon became known as the country's most Avant Garde contemporary art space. Between 1996 and 1998 Mangold helped open and run " Gallerie Szuper " in Munich. In the year 2002 the Mangold moved to Prague. This is when Ilona Mangold began experiments in the digital sphere of art. Scanning original graphite drawings and altering them using image editing software, thus discovering the near limitless possibilities for alternative compositions resulting in a multitude of digital art files. After several years of life and work in the Czech capital,Mangold returned to Munich in 2007 where the artist has been since living and creating art.
