Johanna Marika Thoms (born 1990 in Gardelegen, Germany), known professionally as Marika Thoms, is a German abstract artist based in northern Saxony-Anhalt. Trained in graphic design and art-therapy consultancy, she brings an intuitive, process-driven approach to her painting, drawing inspiration from personal experience, emotions and everyday encounters.
Her works combine acrylic paint, charcoal and pastel with sprayed, scratched and occasionally written elements. Vibrant orange is a recurring signature within compositions characterised by expressive gestures, layered surfaces and carefully considered colour relationships.
Thoms balances spontaneous mark-making with sustained reflection. Her paintings develop through successive actions and revisions, allowing their immediate energy to coexist with compositional harmony. Drawing on techniques associated with Abstract Expressionism, she has developed a personal visual language centred on colour, movement and emotional expression.
