Born in 1988 in Almaty, Kazakhstan, Aziya Ikhtymbayeva grew up in a family full of artists and cinematographers. Art studios and the theatre were her second home and exposed her to different forms of art which she later further explored through her bachelor and master degrees in media and communications. Having experimented with various mediums such as music and fashion design, painting has always been at the core of her interest.

Aziya sees the role of the artist as an independent observer, visualising current trends and phenomena that affect the world we live in. This guides her aim on addressing the prevalence of popular culture in everyday life and relevant issues. The medium of expression includes acrylic, oil paints, markers and paper applications.
